An introverted open plan layout has been adopted to create a seamless flow of spaces and to ensure connectivity across the floors. Designed around two landscaped courtyards, the building program is spread across three floors consisting of a parking area, formal and informal living, an open kitchen and dining, five bedrooms, a study and a semi-open terrace with a kitchenette. Both the courtyards have been strategically designed with skylights to bring in maximum light.
There is no space as room in this house. All of space on the 1st floor have organic form and structure, also they are opened toward the courtyard. The yard is a background which includes expanding all function of this house and a space which plays a centripetal part. Entire space connecting kitchen – entrance – living room is opening toward courtyard, thus all space are bright and warm also are interconnected compactly with courtyard visually and spatially.

Part of this experiential and structural frame includes the perforated stainless steel screen on the north and south faces of the dock. Thousands of unique, laser-cut perforations were shaped and distributed along the surfaces using parametric scripting. Their size and location is based on desired sight lines, direct solar exposure, shade, and relationships with the rise and run of the stairs and roof slope, all while providing structural reinforcement for the overall frame.

The house is built with exposed concrete and a modular wooden structure. The roof and facade cladding is made of metal tiles and a polystyrene filling for thermal protection.
The south façade, made entirely of glass, opens all interior areas to the view and extends them beyond the shell of metal tile with a large wooden roof.
On the north side, near the hill, the volume is enclosed by polycarbonate panels and high frames which protect the house from the sun.
“During design, we were focused on creating a backyard oasis; a small sanctuary to escape to but with a variety of experiences within the garden. Having different spaces and scale of plantings throughout made the garden read not as a singular outdoor space, but as an open living room to be inhabited,” says Yeung.
A rough, textured insitu cast concrete wall forms a spine, defining the ridgeline and the circulation flow through the house. Landscaped courtyards open off either side allowing sunlight, air and nature into the heart of the house. The steeply angled roof planes and peripheral walls are clad in cedar shingles, like a feather cloak draped over the structure.
The design consists of channeling or framing the views from the West side of the property into the house and through to the garden area on the East side. Enveloping the open plan common space in a wood tube becomes the connector between the garden and viewing deck.
